Edward A. Butler (b. 1948, Philadelphia, PA) completed his BFA at the Philadelphia College of Art. A passionate painter from a young age, Butler's subject matter varies from landscapes to animal portraits to still life. The constant in his work is the drama of light and shadow, along with a strong affinity for simplicity and beauty. Butler strives to convey a contemporary point of view while utilizing the techniques of the old masters.
In the artist's words: "Painting for me is a process of selection and dismissal. I endeavor to accept nothing that fails to please the eye. Within that framework, I can be quite literal or work from a mix of educated observation and fantasy. When I am successful, the result, the finished painting, should seem inevitable."
His work is represented in numerous private collections.
