Susan Goldsmith (b. 1955, Los Angeles, CA) attended the California College of the Arts in Oakland, CA, where she completed a BFA in 1977 and an MFA in 1992. Over her career, she worked as a printmaker and as a film editor for Lucas Digital Arts and Industrial Light & Magic, all of which influenced her artistic practice and contributed to the development of the mixed-media processes she employs to realize her art. Goldsmith’s subject matter comes from her exploration of natural environments: “As you pass by one of my works, you will see the colors changing, similar to how colors change in nature based on different times of day or how wind modifies the effect of sunlight on leaves and branches.”
Goldsmith has been included in exhibitions at the Oakland Museum of Art, the Sonoma Valley Museum of Art, the Marin Arts Council, the US Art in Embassies Program, and NHK Broadcasting Corporation’s “One Heart, One World,” which traveled internationally.
